About

My name is Christine Scarcello and I am passionate about food and nutrition! After working briefly in children’s textbook publishing, I went back to school to pursue a second bachelor’s degree and a new career as a Registered Dietitian. But first and foremost I am a writer. I love to write and blog about health-related topics. This Summer I am involved in two nutrition writing internships and I’m learning a ton about this niche of writing. You can also follow me on twitter @_nourish_

My philosophy about food and nutrition in terms of writing about it and consulting others is “everything in balance and moderation.” Making a lifestyle change is hard enough, but it is even harder when you are trying to eat at someone else’s standards. Only you know what you are capable of, Registered Dietitians are only here to help you and encourage your success.

That being said, there are fundamental things that I will vehemently disagree with. These are things like Trans fat, soda, fast food, most fried foods, and things like sugar, candies, cookies, and cakes. Sure, each of these has a “special place” in our diets – like, during a birthday party, or a special event – but these should not be everyday foods. These foods are nutritionally empty and can only hinder any health and weight loss goals that you have.

I myself tend to eat mostly organic vegetarian foods. I also stay away from artificial dyes, preservatives, and sweeteners because of their unnatural origin. I prefer to eat whole foods that come from the earth, with exceptions for dairy (milk, yogurt, kefir) and other healthful items. My best piece of advice as far as eating: don’t eat anything that didn’t exist 100 years ago. I don’t necessarily like the Paleo diet (also known as the Caveman diet), but it is on the right track and probably the best “trendy” diet fad out there right now.

If you’re reading this, I welcome your feedback because I would really love to know what you want to read about! I would love to tailor blog pieces to anyone’s specific nutrition questions or needs! Also be sure to check out Fun Food Friday, where I write about interesting or super-healthy new foods every Friday. If there’s a food you’re wondering about, send a comment about it and I’ll do my research and offer my awesome opinion on it!

Some of my other interests/obsessions include snowboarding, saving the environment, yoga (especially vinyasa flow), mountain biking, hiking, and long-distance trail running. Eventually I will probably transition this blog into a combination of nutrition, snowboarding, and yoga… but for now it’s mostly about nutrition, wellness and exercise.

I am also currently obsessed with moving to Colorado… so if you’re there now and have any tips for a wanna-be transplant, lemme know!

peace & health,
Christine

My personal experiences, opinions, writings, and views on nutrition, food, and health are not meant to replace the advice of your current physician and/or dietitian. Though I have knowledge of food and nutrition, I am not qualified to provide you with meal plans, chronic disease/healthcare advice, or exercise routines. If you have any concerns about health, nutrition, or exercise, please speak with your physician, a Registered Dietitian, or a certified physical fitness trainer.
